Organization Description

The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is a community‐based organization whose mission is to provide safe, affordable housing with supportive services within a residential setting which enhances the independence and dignity of each person.  WSFSSH develops, manages, and provides housing and social services for low‐ income older persons, many of whom live with mental illness and/or have experienced homelessness.

Summary Description
Staff Accountant -Accounts Payable (A/P) will directly report to the A/P Supervisor. They will also work closely with other Accounting staff, Building Manager and other WSFSSH management team. They will be responsible for day-to-day A/P activities, including invoice processing, credit card, check, & online payment processing, and vendor statement reconciliations.  This person will also provide assistance in special projects and duties assigned by A/P Supervisor, Assistant Controller, Controller, Chief Financial Officer and other WSFSSH’s officers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process invoices and payments as assigned
  • Update wire file for invoices daily after approvals and for payment process.
  • Saving all invoices properly with approvals and ACH payment back up daily basis.
  • Update cash flow data with day-to-day payment information
  • Assure proper recordkeeping, accurate coding and posting of all invoices including online direct payments
  • Organize and maintain all A/P documentation including back-up documentation with updates in Microsoft Teams
  • Reconcile periodically the statements from vendors with accounts payable aged reports
  • Develop a working relationship with building managers and directors and assist with any accounts payable related issues
  • Maintain vendor relationships and assist in resolving disputes/issues with vendors
  • Prepare annual 1099’s
  • Assist with year-end closing and annual year-end audits
  • Perform special projects as needed
  • Booking and posting journal entries into accounting software

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of accounting related work experience
  • Strong attention to detail as well as solid organization/time management skills
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be an enthusiastic, positive team player who is willing to help and works well with other colleagues
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks concurrently
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications & Adobe Acrobat Professional and Microsoft Teams
  • Familiarity with MIP (Sage MIP Fund Accounting Classic and Cloud) system would be an advantage.
