 Job Description: Cook

Under the supervision of the Food Service Manager, the cook will be responsible for the preparation, serving and clean-up of the Residence meal program. The cook will:

  • Work with team members to prepare nutritious and attractive meals for approximately 80+ residents while adhering to menus and recipes provided by dietitian.
  • Required to work weekends
  • Serve food to the residents
  • Responsible for cleaning of the work area, equipment, kitchen, storage and dining area.
  • Follow all food safety procedures outlined by NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
  • Assist in accepting food deliveries and putting deliveries away following all DOH regulations.
  • Meet with supervisors on a regular basis to discuss food service.
  • Assist in the monitoring of dining room during meals.
  • Report any changes in status of residents to appropriate staff
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Work as a member of a team to establish and maintain high level of care and respect for and communication with residents.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members.
  • Share information about resident progress, needs, and problems with appropriate staff.
  • Attend in-service training sessions conducted by the Food Service Director.
  • Attend all mandatory trainings and conferences required by WSFSSH.


  • 1 year Cooking and meal preparation experience –
  • Obtain and maintain NYC Food Protection Certificate.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Emotionally, mentally, and physically able to perform job responsibilities
  • Should be able to lift at least 25lbs and able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to speak, read, and write English (as required by DSS regulation 487.9.13)
