Job Description:  Dining Server –Kitchen Porter

Under the supervision of the Chef/Food Service Manager and the Administrator, provide a range of services and supervision to residents of West 74th Street Home with the goal of enabling residents to live as safely and independently as possible.

Dining Room Meal Services:

  • Set up tables prior to meal service and clean up tables and dining area after the meal service
  • Serve meals to the residents, waiter style, with individualized attention to special dietary needs of residents
  • Maintain a welcoming and attentive ambiance in the dining room, assuring cleanliness, available amenities, and high degree of personal service to residents

Kitchen Duties:

  • Assist in preparation and apportioning of food for meals under the direction of chef/food service manager and/or assistant chef.
  • Clean work area, equipment, and kitchen, including operating the dishwasher
  • Maintain safe food handling and sanitation standards at all times.

Supplies:

  • As directed: assist in the reception of food and supplies, including checking in deliveries, implementing prompt and safe storage of perishables, implementing appropriate storage of all supplies.

Mezzanine:

Under the supervision of the Chef/Food Service Manager and Shift Supervisor:

  • Assure the safety and cleanliness of the common areas of the mezzanine: mopping and cleaning surfaces daily.  This may include mezzanine bathrooms.
  • Evening shift: assure garbage and recycling is removed to street level in a safe and timely manner.
  • Intervene in resident issues that arise in the dining room during the meal service

OTHER

  • Work as a member of the team to establish and maintain high level of care and respect for and communication with residents.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members
  • Share information about resident progress, needs, and problems with other staff
  • Attend training sessions and conferences as required for enhancement of job skills
  • Implement emergency procedures as necessary
  • Submit all required reports in a complete and timely manner
  • Assist with other duties as directed

QUALIFICATIONS EXPECTED:

  • Preferred: Minimum of 1 year experience working with dependent persons
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Able to work in a multi-cultural environment, with staff and residents
  • Emotionally, mentally, and physically able to perform job responsibilities.
  • Able to speak, read, and write English (as required by DSS regulation 487.9.13)
