Organization Description

The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is a community‐based organization whose mission is to provide safe, affordable housing with supportive services within a residential setting which enhances the independence and dignity of each person.  WSFSSH develops, manages, and provides housing and social services for low‐ income older persons, many of whom live with mental illness and/or have experienced homelessness.

Summary Description
The Director of Clinical and Social Services (DCSS) will work with the Managing Director of Clinical and Social Services to insure that all WSFSSH residents receive social services that address individual need and support the health, well-being and growth of each resident, enabling residents to live permanently in the community as safely and as independently as  possible. The DCSS will work with the Managing Director of Clinical and Social Services to develop programs to help build a sense of community within each WSFSSH building.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provision of clinical supervision to WSFSSH social workers and/or Clinical Coordinators in a variety of buildings.
  • Participate in evaluating applicants for admission as needed.
  • Participate in the planning for discharges of residents as needed.
  • Ensure the quality and timeliness of all required resident chart documentation.
  • Ensure program compliance with all applicable contract regulations, including DHS, DOH and DMH requirements.
  • Maintenance of databases including but not limited to CAIRS, CAPS, TMS, etc.
  • Work with clinical coordinators and/or social workers to evaluate and case plan for residents with acute psychiatric or medical events.
  • Provision of direct social services to a small caseload.
  • Participate in Special Incident Review Committees.
  • Work with program staff to plan program budgets and monitor budget expenses over the course of the contract year.
  • On call responsibilities as assigned.
  • Assist in the review of WSFSSH social service policies and procedures.
  • Serve as liaison to DHS, DMH and other contract and non-contract agencies as needed.
  • Convene scheduled social service meetings as needed.
  • Provision of staff training.
  • Involvement in the professional development of social work staff and retention policies regarding social work staff.
  • Involvement in the recruitment and hiring of social service staff.
  • Identify gaps in services and work to develop a plan to address these gaps.
  • Provision of crisis intervention service.


  • LCSW preferred
  • LMSW within 6 months of LCSW certification would be considered
  • Bilingual Spanish/English helpful
  • Experience in working with the homeless or mentally ill adults required
  • Experience in supervision required.  SIFI helpful.
