WSFSSH Director of Congregate Care


The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is a community-based organization whose mission is to provide safe, affordable housing with supportive services within residential settings that promote the independence and dignity of each person.  WSFSSH develops, manages, and provides housing for low- income older persons, many of whom live with mental illness and/or have experienced homelessness.


Reporting to the WSFSSH Executive Director (ED), the Director of Congregate Care (DCC) will have responsibility over all aspects of WSFSSH’s 4 Congregate Care buildings (CCB’s).  These buildings provide comprehensive housing, meals and services to approximately 320 older residents, many of whom are living with mental illness and/or have a history of homelessness and addiction.  These buildings, which operate on a 24/7 basis, have an extensive staff with building management, social services, maintenance and food service responsibilities.

The DCC will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and the Chief Social Services Officer (CSSO) in overseeing the operation of the CCB portfolio.


  1. Management of the building managers who have responsibilities in the following areas:
  • Schedules
  • Staffing performance (with HR)
  • Program Budgets (with CFO)
  • Physical plant (with Facilities department and COO)
  • Meals program (with Food Service Director and COO)
  • Vacancies and arrears (with COO)
  1. Support of management of the clinical coordinators by the CSSO. The clinical coordinators hold the senior social work positions and have responsibilities in the following areas:
  • Social worker supervision
  • Implement and maintain social work services that meet resident needs and contract requirements
  • Building activities and special events
  1. Management of the long term financial viability of the buildings
  • Secure additional funding to increase financial strength of the programs (with CFO)
  1. Management of the relationship with public agencies such as NYS-DOH, NYS-OTDA/HHAP,NYS-OMH, NYC-DOHMH, NYC-HPD, HUD McKinney, (With executive team)
  • Inspections
  • Compliance and reporting
  • Regulatory issues
  1. Management of advocacy efforts
  • City and State elected officials
  1. Management of relationship with intermediary organizations
  • Leading Age



  • Passionate about WSFSSH’s mission and impact
  • 10+ years in a management position in a nonprofit organization, foundation, or government agency
  • Advanced management or advanced social work degree
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, especially in motivating and supporting staff in their work towards fulfilling the agency mission and meeting the needs of the vulnerable populations
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with senior management and staff
  • Success in roles requiring execution of multiple tasks while responding to multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work within and foster a team-centered work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide array of people – junior and senior, for-profit and nonprofit, and from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to interact with residents and support staff in their interactions


  • Ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into the organizational plan


  • Ability to balance the delivery of programs against the realities of a budget
