Job Description:  OVERNIGHT Personal Care Aide/Housekeeper

Under the supervision of the shift supervisor and administrator, provide a range of services and supervision to residents of West 74th Street Home with the goal of enabling residents to live permanently at West 74th Street Home  as safely and independently as possible.

SERVICES TO ASSIGNED RESIDENTS:

Responsible for assuring that personal care and housekeeping needs are met for assigned residents (typically 20-30 residents)

  •  Supervise the personal hygiene and physical well being of residents
  •  Assist residents, as needed, in activities of daily living, including: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, walking, eating, personal care
  • Monitor to assure that residents are eating meals regularly each day.
  • Assist residents in using the dining room, participating in activity programs, and joining in the life of the facility
  • Assist residents in participating in neighborhood resources and shopping
  • Perform light mending as needed
  •  Escort residents to medical and other appointment

Housekeeping:

  • Daily and as often as necessary:  make beds, empty garbage, clean toilet and sink, assure any health or safety issues are immediately addressed (for example:  changing soiled sheets, reporting and following through on any needed emergency repairs)
  • Three times a week and as often as necessary:  clean all bathroom surfaces:  toilet, sink, tub, shower, medicine cabinet, light fixtures
  • Twice a week and as often as necessary:  vacuum, dust surfaces, change towels and deliver dirty linens to the laundry room
  • Once a week and as often as necessary:  change bed linens, collect personal laundry and deliver laundry to laundry room, examine and report needed repairs of:  lights, shades, curtains, shower curtain, and furnishings
  • Every three months and as often as necessary:  rotate mattress, change blanket, bedspread, mattress pads.
  • As needed, as directed, or as possible:  do resident personal laundry and linens

 

SERVICES TO ALL RESIDENTS:

  • In the absence of assigned worker, or in case of emergency, assure that the personal care and housekeeping needs of residents are met.  At minimum:
    • Assist residents, as needed, in activities of daily living, including: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, walking, eating, personal care
    • Escort residents to medical and other appointments
    • Daily and as often as necessary:  make beds, empty garbage, clean toilet and sink, assure any health or safety issues are immediately addressed (for example:  changing soiled sheets, reporting and following through on any needed emergency repairs)
    • Assist in the dining room as directed, including plating food, serving food, assisting residents to eat, and helping to clear tables
    •   As directed:  perform building security rounds
    • As directed:  monitor residents entering and leaving the building, responding to behaviors which might be dangerous to self or others (for example: if a resident is leaving the building, but appears disoriented and confused, response might include talking with the resident and encouraging him/her to stay in the lobby, notifying social service staff, or even calling 911 depending on the circumstances).
    • As directed, perform other “front desk” duties, including, but not limited to:  monitoring persons entering and leaving the building, answering intercoms and telephones,  performing building safety rounds.

OTHER

  • Work as a member of a team to establish and maintain high level of care and respect for and communication with residents
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members
  • Share information about resident progress, needs, and problems with other staff in accordance with WSFSSH Confidentiality Policy.
  • Attend training sessions and conferences as required for enhancement of job skills
  • Implement emergency procedures as necessary
  • Submit all required reports in a complete and timely manner
  • Assist with other duties as directed

QUALIFICATIONS EXPECTED:

  • Preferred:  At least 1 year experience working with dependent persons
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Able to work in a multicultural and diverse environment
  • Able to perform job responsibilities.
  • Able to speak, read, and write English (as required by DSS regulation 487.9.13)
